After graduating from St Martin’s, Professor Ooi went on to study at the University of Melbourne where he achieved a Bachelor of Engineering in 1993, before completing his PhD in 1997. Professor Ooi then finished his post-doctoral research at Stanford University in California.

Professor Ooi is a busy man. He has published more than 300 scholarly works on his research and has made a significant contribution to society's scientific understanding of a wide range of topics, from cardiology to fluid dynamics to wildfire management.

During his career Professor Ooi has worked at the Centre for Turbulence Research, the NASA Ames Research Centre - located in California’s Silicon Valley, Stanford University, and as a research scientist at the Australian Defence Science and Technology Organisation. A very deserving recipient of the Shining Light Award, Professor Ooi is a wonderful role model to all Damascus students and an inspiration to those looking to enter the field of STEAM.
