Everything old is new again! Damascus College Performing Arts Co-ordinator Andrew Seeary is reimagining the Seven Deadly Sins 2012 VCE Ensemble season with the Class of 2022 students.
The plot the students are working from is… Residing in purgatory, the Collection of Lost Souls department thrives. But the days of economic nationalism have inevitably reached it. Unhappy with the current turn over, and in an effort to cut costs, a review is called to downsize and replace the department. As “surely we don’t need all of these sins?” is the phrase being bandied by those in upper management. The original sins are called to justify their importance and power in modern society to a representative from the head office simply called Will. In doing so they must Demonstrate and recreate key examples of how they have influenced great moments in; myths, human history, pop culture and COVID-19.
This piece of devised drama is being undertaken by the year twelve VCE drama class of 2022. The class of seven each play one of the ‘Seven Deadly sins’: Wrath, Envy, Lust, Gluttony, Greed(avarice), Sloth and Pride. Through a prescribed structure, they are creating a piece of drama representable of their skill and knowledge of performance-making, to eventually present to a wider audience.
Students from the Class of 2012 were Rachel Grawich, Molly Kinghorn, Melissa Langford, Madeleine Macallister, Paige Nyary, Morgan Olney, and Holly Ward
Students from the Class of 2022 include Kira Edwards, Lucas Brady, Mikayla Montgomery, Gabriel Blake, Matilda Martin-Block, Cooper Guinea and Eloise McGifford.
Rehearsals began last Wednesday, with the 3 day season set to be played out on the Audi Stage in May 2022. Rumour has that the original cast may be in the audience to see how this new generation portrays these "sins".
