Congratulations to Damascus College Year 7 student Luka White who has been selected in the U15A Victoria Country Basketball team to attend next January’s Kumon Country-Metro Challenge.
Basketball Victoria has selected players from 20 Country teams to attend the Kumon Country-Metro Challenge. This program has temporarily replaced the Southern Cross Challenge for 2022 due to state border closures and travel concerns. Both Country and Metropolitan representatives will earn insight into development and higher-level gameplay from participating in this elite tournament.
“It was extremely impressive to see our Country athletes return to the court for these tryouts ready to learn and up for the challenge of elite basketball,” Zoe Carr, Basketball Victoria High Performance Head Coach – Country Women said. “It’s been a difficult 2021 for these players, but they have been able to pick up where they left off before the last lockdown.
Due to COVID restrictions and concerns it has been a long time coming for these players to return to High Performance basketball tournaments and Luka is excited and passionate to be representing his team, his school and his City.
The Kumon Country-Metro Challenge, which has been developed to fill the void of the Southern Cross Challenge and East Coast Challenge, will give the selected players a chance to push their case for state team selections later in 2022.
The 2022 Kumon Country-Metro Challenge will be held at the State Basketball Centre, Wantirna South from 14-17 January 2022
This elite tournament will give Luka an insight into future development and higher-level gameplay.
Well done Luka on becoming a Vic Country representative and best of luck in January.
