Damascus College Performing Arts 2024 proudly presents:

The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon

The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon is a wild, free-form comedy with lots of audience participation and madcap fun. Two narrators attempt to recreate all 209 of the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm in a wild, fast-paced extravaganza. To make it more difficult, they attempt to combine them into one gigantic fable using Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and other more obscure stories like Lean Lisa and The Devil's Grandmother.

Almost everyone knows the classic stories of Cinderella, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, and Rapunzel, but what many may not know is how the Brothers Grimm originally wrote the stories. On the nights of September 12 to 14, students of Damascus College will present a phenomenal re-enactment of such stories in what is called The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon.

A cast of students from all year levels within the College is putting on this two hour performance to give students with an interest in Drama and performance with yet another opportunity to hone their characterisation skills and comic timing. Fresh on the tail of our senior dramatic play ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time’ this play is about having fun.

The plot entailed a series of stories that the original Grimm brothers collected, with the play itself featuring narrators who direct each story as it is portrayed on stage. The fourth wall is broken within seconds of the beginning of the first scene, as the audience is addressed numerous times by the cast. To add to the chaos the cast attempt to tell a staggering 209 tales with the characters trying to change their stories outcome along the way. There are also several mentions to the stories that were remodeled by Walt Disney, along with jokes referencing copyright.
