Shining Light Award for Inspiring Alumni

The Damascus College Shining Light is a prestigious award that celebrates the outstanding achievements of extraordinary Damascus College alumni in a diverse range of fields and areas of endeavour. The award recognises alumni whose service has significantly contributed to the local, state, national, international and/or the College community.
The Shining Light Award enables Damascus to celebrate and recognise the contributions of alumni who have shined bright in their chosen field.
The chosen award recipients will have the opportunity to be inducted at a Damascus College event, celebrated on the Damascus website and social pages, and will receive a trophy in honour of their achievements. The winners will be notified in September and will be informed of their induction date. Nominations close on Monday 30 June, 2025.
Damascus alumni include past students and staff of Sacred Heart, St Paul’s, St Martin’s in the Pines and Damascus College.
Award Categories:
Service to the Community - a significant or notable contribution to the community at a local, state, national or international level
STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) Achievement - a significant achievement or excellence in science, technology, engineering, arts, or math
Sporting Achievement - a significant or distinguished sporting achievement at local, state, national or international level
Academia or Career Excellence - a significant academia achievement and/or a distinguished career in their chosen field
Faith Development - a significant contribution to support and uphold Social Justice and Christian Values
This year we invite nominations for our Young Achiever Shining Light Award!
The Young Achiever - celebrates young alumni who graduated from Damascus College within the last 15 years and have made a significant or notable achievement in one of the above categories.
Nomination Criteria:
Anyone can submit a nominee for The Shining Light Award based on the following criteria:
Recipient must be of Damascus College Alumni, alive or not. Alumni are past students and staff of Damascus College and its foundation colleges, Sacred Heart, St Paul’s and St Martin’s in the Pines.
Be successful in their chosen field - positions held, achievements, qualifications, awards/prizes/scholarships or length of service.
Made contributions or supported the local, state, national, international and/or the college community in ways that are inspirational or motivational.

Alumni at Damascus College are defined as past students and staff of Damascus College and its foundation colleges, Sacred Heart, St Paul’s and St Martin’s in the Pines.
Steven is an innovative and passionate leader and his leadership style is one that is highly relational and visible. His personal educational vision is to work in relationship and in partnership with all members of the community to create a faith learning dynamic that celebrates, affirms, and challenges people to achieve personal excellence.
Damascus College wishes to thank Mr Christopher Grant, Interim Principal for the leadership he has given to the College, since the departure of Mr Matthew Byrne at the end of Term 1 2022.
